Venera returns to the role of Queen of Shemakha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel on 25 May at Teatro Real in Madrid, with further performances on 28, 31 May, 3 and 6 June.
The production is by Laurent Pelly and is a co-production with La Monnaie and Opéra National de Lorraine. Venera sang in the La Monnaie performances of the same production in December last year, to rapturous reviews:
“Venera Gimadieva embodies the tsarina with the desired sensuality.”
“A perfectly controlled voice, capable of acrobatics as well as the most delicate arabesques.”
“You'll be overwhelmed by the incredibly poignant soprano Venera Gimadieva.”
This is Venera’s first return to Madrid since her debut last year, when she made a role debut as Elvira in Bellini’s I Puritani.
