The new season is here: Venera’s 2016/17 highlights / by Florence Eves

The 2016/17 opera season is now under way, and it features many exciting performances for Venera. Here are her highlights for the next twelve months:

Venera makes two major house debuts this season: at La Monnaie in Brussels on 13 December 2016 and at Santa Fe Opera in the United States on 15 July 2017. For both debuts, she reprises the role of Queen of Shemakha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Golden Cockerel.

In October, she performs in a concert tour with tenor José Carreras. From 12 to 31 October, she joins him for performances of his ‘A Life in Music’ at prestigious halls across Germany: the Berlin Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Stuttgart Liederhalle, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Munich Philharmonie and the Rosengarten Mozartsaal in Mannheim.

Venera also reprises the title role of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at Opernhaus Zurich in February and at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in April.

Her other house returns are to the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, for Norina in Don Pasquale in September, and to Teatro Real, Madrid, to sing Queen of Shemakha in May.
