Venera wins second prize in this year’s Paris Opera Competition / by Florence Eves

The competition, now in its fourth season, took place on 23 January at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Paris, and aims to showcase rising stars in the opera world. Venera took second prize with a performance of Amina’s aria ‘Ah non credea mirarti’ from Bellini’s La Sonnambula, as well as participating in ensembles from Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Mozart’s La clemeza di Tito.

Hailed as "the new voice of Russia" and the star of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Venera has enjoyed a spectacular few months of success, including house debuts at both the Paris Opera and Glyndebourne Festival, earning rave reviews from critics.
